One day does not make a life. Lives are shaped every day of the year. And when we find ourselves in the enviable—yet daunting—position of helping shape young lives, we have a responsibility to infuse them with support and encouragement.
According to Carol W. Dweck, author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, “We found that students’ mindsets—how they perceive their abilities—played a key role in their motivation and achievement, and we found that if we changed students’ mindsets, we could boost their achievement.” If we—as caring adults—can affect the mindsets of the young people in our lives, encouraging them to believe they’re absolutely incredible, just think of the influence our words could have.Throughout the country youth today are being significantly impacted by these emotionally charged and chaotic times. Now more than ever they seek guidance and encouragement from the adults around them. Camp Fire’s national Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® (AIKD) on March 16 provides the perfect opportunity for every one of us to help our nation’s children by writing letters of support. I encourage you to join me, pick up your pen, and write a few words. By sharing our letters we can make a life-long impact by helping children feel highly-regarded, loved and admired. Through words of praise and encouragement, we energize the child’s drive for success in the future.
